Ariana Grande Announces She's Taking a Step Back From "All Things That Are Not Wicked"

Right now, Ariana Grande is in a state of mind where she can only be all into one thing at a time.
Indeed, the “yes, and?” singer recently told her fans she was pivoting away from any project unrelated to Wicked.
“I love you all so much,” Ariana wrote in a July 11 Instagram Story. “I have decided to put a temporary pin in all things that are not Wicked for now.”
Still, the 31-year-old—who dropped her seventh studio album eternal sunshine in March—teased more things to come.
“Thank you in advance for understanding,” she continued. “I am deeply grateful for your patience and, mostly, so inexplicably excited for all that is to come. There is so much. See you soon.”
Ariana’s announcement comes just days after she discussed the possibility of doing a “mini” tour, or a “sampling of shows” for her latest project.
“I think it would be a really lovely idea to be able to trickle in some shows in between the two Wickedfilms,” she said during the July 9 episode of the Shut Up Evan podcast. “I think there’s a version of that that exists.”
However, considering Ariana has said Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked is her “dream role,” it’s not surprising she’s decided to put all her current energy into the upcoming film.
“I have never wanted something as badly as I did this,” she explained during a February interview with Zach Sang, emphasizing how much dedication playing Glinda really takes. “Everything about me, I had to deconstruct to prove to them that I could handle taking on this other person. I had to completely erase popstar Ari—the person that they know so well—because it’s even harder to believe someone as someone else when you’re so branded as one thing. I had to go all the way and strip that down.”
Ariana has certainly proven she’s dedicated to bringing the iconic Broadway show to the big screen. Keep reading for a sneak peek of the singer’s transformation in the upcoming flick, which hits theaters on November 22, 2024.
